So far we are just showing before photos and tear down, stay with us as we bring the actual hands on restoration.

So someone asked why are you vacuuming the engine? This engine as you call it is an ancient artifact and treated as such! LOL Seriously it is carefully examined throughout its teardown and kept clean as we proceed and a shop vac is the best way to do this.

 

     

 

First look inside, a bit dirty as expected? We are forensically figuring out if this engine has been rebuilt and modified, so far we are aware it has been bored over .30 so we are expecting the same results as we proceed thru the bottom? Turned Crank ETC................

 

 

  

 

Beginning of Glass removal.

 

   

 

As with all unseen areas we naturally expect to see rusted out part as we see in this windshield center piece, it is amazing how in the first photos this jewel appears to be restored, however, it was never fully restored and what was done to it has already started to fall apart!

 

 

 Here we JR wasting time trying to figure out what not to be doing! LOL HA Ha! Seriously, meet Devin, this is our Glass guy who is a pro at flat antique Glass. Devin has been responsible for all our Glass restoration projects.

At this time all the Glass has been cut and stored safely for reinstallation.

 

Transmission,

This is just a shot of removing the Trans from engine, we wanted to show this because we found Baling wire holding part of the clutch together! LOL No bubble gum though?

 

     

 

Hi everyone!

As you are all aware CCC has moved from Pilot Point Texas to Princeton Texas!

This project and many, many more have been on temporary hold until the moved had been completed.

Unfortunately Texas went into flood crisis at the same time and made our move quite the task and tripled the time it would have normally taken, UGH!

I want to be clear about our time lines on all our projects; we will pick up where we left off, we will NOT make up for lost time, these projects will take the time needed to do them correctly.

CCC is in business for the love of the Cadillac and NOT because we are desperate for money, so we will focus on our projects as if they were just started and do them as time allows in the fashion needed to accomplish them.

Thanks for all the inquiries and concerns, but we are fine and our success is our goal.

 

Now, lets get back to work! Here are the first photos of the reinstated 40 Coupe, the next step in this operation will be the drivetrain, then we will safely store it while we concentrate on the frame and body.

 

 

I opened up the engine kit today and as always it is like Christmas! LOL

There is nothing like old school mechanics and the parts required to build these fascinating older motors.

6/17/2015 One of my favorite parts of restoring or tearing down any engine is figuring out what is wrong with it?
This is the 1940 Coupe's 346. This particular engine was in fact rebuilt by a DIY guy in the early 80"s and does not have a lot miles since then, but looking at it through tear down it has had a problem?
It is obvious the bearings have been seriously starved of oil! Why?

When the owner first started it for me, it knocked until it finally got some oil up in the block then subsided a bit, this may sound normal to some, but this should not be the case.
This engine or any of these engines were built to last much longer then 5 to 6k miles and should not show this much starvation.

As we proceed to restore this block, I will carefully address all oil passages, assure the pump is working as it should and all seals are correctly installed.
It will be my goal to take this jewel back to day one, and give it a longevity that will last the owner for many years to come!

 

   

 

  The Culprit?

    This ring was broken before we removed it.

All and all, the choice to rebuild this was correct, it would not have lasted much longer?
